Oh my! Is that what I think it is?
Oh yes! It's a basking shark up ahead!

Basking sharks live in the western and eastern Atlantic, western Indian Ocean, and western and eastern pacific. They grow to an average length of about 33 feet.

Basking sharks are filter feeders, just like the whale shark. They swim with their mouths wide open and take in tons of microscopic plankton which they "filter" out of the water.

A basking shark filters enough water to fill one olympic size swimming pool per hour!

Basking sharks are also killed in some countries for their meat. Sadly their numbers are dwindling. Let's enjoy watching this animal as it swims away and we will continue on our journey...
