CLASS:
Elasmobranchii is the class which includes sharks and batoids (rays). Elasmobranchs are characterized by cylindrical or flattened bodies, five to seven pairs of gill slits, an upper jaw not fused to their cranium, and placoid scales (which will be discussed later).
